National power, energy week begins 7th December
The National Power and Energy Week-2016 or the ‘Jatiya Bidyut Saptaha-2016’ is going to begin today. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the program on 10 AM today at the city’s Bashundhara International Convention Centre (BICC). The theme of this year’s ‘Power and Energy Week’ is ‘Odomya Bangladesh’ or Indomitable Bangladesh.
The government is about to celebrate its ‘success’ in reaching 15,000 MW of power generation capacity. An ‘Alok Utshab’ or light festival and fireworks in regards to the celebration event at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid confirmed about these events starting 7th December in a press conference held at the power division office. Power Cell director general Mohammad Hossain, Power Development Board (PDB) chairman Khalid Mahmud, Petrobangla chairman Istiaque Ahmed were present at the press conference.
The state minister said that, 4 international seminars will be arranged on the issues including technologies of the coal-based power plants, energy efficiency and international best practices in power and energy sectors within the 4-day celebration program. Experts and professionals from different nations are scheduled to participate in the seminars.
The inaugural function will be followed by opening of an exhibition of power and energy related products and services. Local and international farms from public and private sectors will be participating in the fair to showcase their products and services.
